Any excuse to get on the water is a good excuse, knowing your day will consist of crack-ups, beers and potentially some good fishing. The idea to hold a small fishing comp between a bunch of like-minded people came about early March. Events that are put together on a whim go one of two ways - It's either an absolute flop or the event just rolls on the way it wants too.
Knowing we had a few decent fisherman amongst the invites we had to restrict the area we could all fish to make it a more even playing field. Anglers could only fish a 1500m radius of Rabbit Island.. Another idea that was thrown out due to 3.8m swells and a gusting south-east wind. The competition zone was moved to the Tauranga Harbour, the inner fishing grom had to come out in everyone and the playing field was levelled even further.
The day was fun, beers were drunk and a few faces were burnt. Shout out to everyone involved - Top Catch, Haku Hunters and Moa Beer.
